Rat Storm/Chaotic Neutral Split, Warpath Discography LP, and more upcoming things!

There has been a lot going on, so I have a lot to report!

First of all - the Rat Storm/Chaotic Neutral split 7"s are in!  I still have to get them all stuffed and ready to send it out, but they should all be in the mail and start being available all over in the next few days.  I have a special if you order them by Nov. 22 where I'll let you choose from all the beautiful colors we have - but after the 22nd we'll just be randomly choosing what color goes out.  Also, I will be sending special screenprinted posters to the first 10 people to order the 7".  I already sold a few today, so get on it if you want a poster!

Next up is the Parasitic Twins 7" which is currently at the plant.  This is gonna be one killer 7 inch of punishing yet totally satisfyingly melodic hardcore, pretty damn perfect.  More info on this soon.

The Casque - Devour the Lion CS has officially sold out... and for good reason, because it is totally killer!  However, I plan to put it back into press very soon.  I still am only going to do a limited quantity as the band is currently inactive - but if you didn't pick one up already, you are missing out and you really should grab one before this second press gets snatched up too.

I also will soon be releasing the Kata Sarka/Boddicker split 7" - which is gonna bring you more vicious blackened D-beat than you can handle - as well as the Peeple Watchin' CS version of their upcoming full-length.  Peeple Watchin' play high-energy poppy punk with intelligent lyrics and a great message, gonna be a killer tape!  Also, I will be helping release a 4-way split between Autonomy, Cemetery, Population, and Staring Problem on 12" very soon as well.  That also promises to be an amazing slab of wax.

Finally, but not least importantly by any means, I will very soon be releasing the Warpath -  Discography 12"!!! This is awesome news for me as I am a huge Warpath fan.  These guys/gals played some really killer crusty hardcore in Pittsburgh in the 1990's, and sadly have been often overlooked.  You may recognized them because my band, Closet Burner, covered their song Abomination on our 12".  They have some killer records that you can track down if you try, including a 4 way split 10" that often sells for $30 or more... but soon you will be able to get their entire output in a killer remastered form as well as a handful of unreleased tracks all in one place... and that is RIGHT HERE!  I'm working with Jethro from Warpath to put this all together, and I can promise it will not only look and sound great, but will also come with some extras ;)  So keep up to date as more details come in.

new look, new stuff

Check out the new look!  I have tried to make this page a little easier to navigate, so enjoy :)

I also have a bit of news, the Rat Storm/Chaotic Neutral test presses should be here in a few days, which is super-exciting.  I can't wait to get that record out!  Additionally, I have confirmed with Peeple Watchin' that I will be releasing the CS version of their LP.  Peeple Watchin' are an AWESOME poppy punk band from Boston and they are awesome people, so this is gonna be great.

Additionally, I am working on another project that will be REALLY exciting, but it's not for sure yet... check back soon.

In the meantime... some tapes!

First up:
reality #003
Casque - Devour the Lion

The band is on a hiatus at the moment, so this is a short run of only 29 tapes.  Come with a really cool looking J-card that is French Paper screen-printed with silver and white ink.  Tapes are $5.50 ppd If you want to a physical copy shoot me an email - realityisacult@gmail.com - they are gonna go fast!

Closet Burner 12" and Big Distro Update

First things first... the Closet Burner 12" is nearly ready.  Sorry it has taken a bit longer than anticipated, but the records are here and they look and sound great - right now we just have to finish all the screenprinting!!  The official release will be on August 10th, there are still a small number of the special edition covers up for grabs, so if you want one, make sure to preorder before the 10th.  Check the Tumblr soon for process pics and such.

Additionally, I have jumped in to help release the Rat Storm/Chaotic Neutral split and those have been ordered and should be here in mid-September.  The Mary and Child tape should be out in a couple weeks and songs will be posted online within a day or to.

Also a big distro update:
email me realityisacult@gmail.com to place an order.  Shipping will be reasonable ($3-4 for a single record and a only a little more per additional record).

7":
Rotting Palms - S/T - $4
-- Young punks from Tampa playing bludgeoning angry crusty hardcore in the vein of His Hero is Gone.

Cloud Rat/Autarkeia Split - $4
-- Split between Cloud Rat from MI, who are one of my favorite bands and play pissed fast as hell hardcore with seething female vocals.  Autarkeia is from FL and play a whole different type of pissed hardcore, more reminiscent of 90s emo, also female-fronted, also awesome.  This split has some of my favorite tracks from both bands!

Hexis - X - $4
-- Hexis is from Denmark and they play a totally unique blend of black metal and hardcore.  It's dark and heavy and perfect.  Not super fast, but still steadily pounding with the urgency of music played at twice the speed.

We Need To Talk - It's Not Us, It's You (Royal Blue Vinyl) - $4
-- Totally raging, grinding hardcore that sounds a bit like Left for Dead. Came out a few years ago and flew under the radar in much of the midwest, which is a total shame, because this shit rips.

Control De Estado - Ladron - $4
-- This is like Crudos and Dropdead in a blender.  The cover is a really awesome screenprinted foldup with a beautiful screen printed poster on the inside, officially out of print probably will be hard to find soon.

12":
Light Bearer/Northless Split - $11
-- Brand new release on Halo of Flies.  This is a heavy heavy record between two bands that are both doing something truly original and relevant.  Comes in a gorgeous gatefold. If you like heavy music, you should own this.

Lich/Resurrectionists Split - $11
-- Another amazing split.  This features Resurrectionists from Germany who play totally chaotic hardcore that is amazingly technical and precise yet also always sounds on the verge of collapse.  Lich is from the UK and they have a more powerviolence sound - slow and noisy and bursts of blasts and insanity. Comes in awesome dark screenprinted gatefolds.

Kam Kama - The Tiled House (White 180 gram vinyl) - $12
-- Another gorgeous looking release, but this is one is from Bloomington locals Kam Kama.  Kam Kama play damn good post punk.  It has a unique gothic overtone and is full of energetic riffs and hooks that will stick in your head for weeks.  Highly recommended for anyone that likes classic 70s and 80s goth and post punk, but is looking for something more relevant.

Potty Mouth - Sun Damage - $10
-- Just released. Potty Mouth is a band of ass-kicking girls for Western Mass that play a fantastic blend of indie and alternative but with the spirit and edge of punk.

Inservibles - S/T - $14
-- Ugly, weird, noisy punk.  This has everything that modern punk is usually missing.  Just buy it, you should hear it.

Negative Standards - VI - XI - $11
A fantastic follow up to the 10".  More killer otherworldly dark crusty hardcore.  Artwork is appropriately creepy.

Crucifix - Dehumanization (on limited edition Clear out of only 113) - $12
-- It's a classic, and it should be.  It's snotty and raw and crusty and everything great about hardcore in 1983

Her Breath on Glass - We Aimed Straight Down - $8
-- Classic noisy 90s style emo.  Members of The Last Forty Seconds and The Saddest Landscape.  Gorgeous screen printed covers.

Heresy - Face Up to It!  (1 on White 1 on Bright Yellow) - $15
-- Another classic that is tough to find.  It's Heresy... if you like hardcore, you probably like it.  If you don't own it, buy it now.  It's not too easy to find and it's certainly not getting easier.
Man Lifting Banner - The Revolution Continues (2xLP) - $16
-- I have been waiting to get this for months!  Man Lifting Banner is members of Larm and Seein' Red and they are honestly my favorite band out of that lot (which is saying a lot).  This features 8 brand new tracks (and they still make killer hardcore, don't worry) as well as their entire previous discography that is damn hard to get on vinyl (trust me, I've been trying) - so it is certainly worth it.
Electro Hippies - The Only Good Punk is a Dead One

Masakari - The Prophet Feeds (Gatefold Cover) - $10
-- From Halo of Flies: “Finally a new record from this awesome band from Cleveland! Close your eyes and imagine that His Hero is Gone and Amebix got together and had a child… got it? Ok, now imagine that that child grows up in a dank room full of teenage angst, listening to nothing but Death Side and Disfear records until he is 21 years-old. Now open your eyes and what you have is Masakari, a crust punk band from Cleveland, Ohio.”  I think that sums it up.

Assitot Mort - Discographie (2xLP Gatefold) - $15
-- Complete discography of this fantastic French screamo. Members of Amanda Woodward.

Lentic Waters - LP - $11
-- I originally got interested in this record because I thought the artwork was awesome... turns out the record is even more awesome.  This is dark building heaviness that periodically breaks way into blasts of chaotic hardcore.  Packaging combine letterpress, screenprinting, and pasted paper - and it looks awesome.

Gentle Art of Choking - LP - $10
-- Killer powerviolence/fastcore blasts!

Electro Hippies - The Only Good Punk is a Dead One - $15
-- Pre-Napalm Death.  It's totally raging peaceville crust.  I absolutely love this band. Yummy.

Cassettes:
Potty Mouth - Big in Brazil - $3
-- Two killer tracks on a bright orange tape in a see-thru green case.  Looks as good as it sounds!

Chemical Peel - Bad Cream - $3
-- Wicked surfy/noisy/garage/punk from SC.  It's good good good!
Plus LOTS of stuff from previous post is still in the distro!

Distro Update

Hey everyone,

I've been a little quiet, but that's just because I'm working hard getting this label off the ground.  The Closet Burner test presses have been approved and sound great!  The records are scheduled to be pressed in the beginning of July and the 12" should be ready for release by the end of the month - you can preorder it with the special cover still: http://realityisacult.storeenvy.com !  I'll post process pics as we work on the packaging and such.

In other news - the Mary & Child CS has been recorded and is being mixed, should also be out within a few weeks.  The Indiana HC compilation is being worked on, and we are still accepting submissions if you would like to submit!  The Sad Family 10" has turned into a 12" and is being recorded very soon.  And finally, the Side FX/Parasitic Twins split is nearing completion and should be off to be pressed by August at the latest.

In the meantime, I have a distro list for you all to enjoy!  I have some stuff listed on Discogs, but I'd rather do most my sales without any corporations taking a cut... so if you can, order from me directly!  Just send me an email realityisacult@gmail.com - shipping will depend on your order, but will be shipped media mail and be totally reasonable.

Let's get things rolling

Hello friends!  If you are here I guess you figured out that I decided to start this record label.  There are a handful of reasons I have done this, the #1 reason being that I love music, I love records, and I have a lot of ideas - so the idea of putting out records for good people and good bands seems like a good thing for me to do!

Reality is a Cult is a non-profit label, meaning that any money I make is just going to go back into putting out more records.  I'll additionally be running a small distro with the purpose of making rad records, zines, etc available and accessible to people.  All the money made from the distro will also go back into putting out more records!!!

So... without further ado - here we go!

This is what I currently have planned/in the works for the summer:

  reality.is.a.cult.001 -  Closet Burner 12"  (summer 2012)
  reality.is.a.cult.002 -  Mary & Child CS  (summer 2012)
  reality.is.a.cult.003 -  Indiana Hardcore Compilation CS (w/No I in Punk - summer 2012)
  reality.is.a.cult.004 -  Sad Family 10"  (summer/fall 2012)

Other Future Releases:
